How to install Perle Multimodem Fax Driver on Ubuntu

This is a guide line to install Perle Multimodem Fax board driver (PCI-RAS V.92) on Ubuntu / Debian. For more information about this product, please visit at http://www.perle.com.

Become super user and install build-essential, linux-headers packages

user@server:~# sudo su -
 Password:
root@server:~# apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-`uname -r`

File config.h does not exists in newer kernel sources. This has to be created

root@server:~# touch /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build/include/linux/config.h

Also, /etc/modprobe.conf file need to created to load the perle-serial module (fax board driver).

root@server:~# touch /etc/modprobe.conf

Download the fax board driver from http://www.perle.com/downloads/multi_modem.shtml and install it.

root@server:~# wget .http://www.perle.com/downloads/drivers/ultraport/linux/perle-serial-3.3.0-19.tgz
 root@server:~# tar zxfv perle-serial-3.3.0-19.tgz
 root@server:~# cd perle-serial-3.3.0-19
 root@server:~# ./tar_install.sh

Load the fax board driver module (“modprobe -l ” should list the perle-serial module)

root@server:~# modprobe -a perle-serial

Finally, check whether module has loaded successfully or not in system log.

root@server:~# tail /var/log/syslog
